Frequently asked questions
Does Copilot watermark its images?
This page reports a Microsoft attribution only when a structured manifest issuer or generator field says so. It can also show supporting metadata; neither a generic metadata string nor a missing manifest proves origin.
Is the Copilot watermark visible or hidden?
Both can exist: an optional visible icon or label, and invisible C2PA metadata. They are separate layers - a file can have one without the other - so each is reported separately.
Can C2PA credentials be removed from Copilot images?
The metadata record can be removed from a file you own, but platforms may still label uploads based on other signals. Removal does not undo generation history.
Who verifies the C2PA signature?
This tool reports the manifest's presence and issuer. Deep cryptographic validation is done by the C2PA open-source toolchain; results here identify what is in the file, per layer.
Are Copilot watermarks always enabled?
